I’m really bad at taking time
away. I mean real time away where I’m
completely out of touch and can fully recharge - not the run away for a long
weekend but bring your laptop with you kind of away. I need to get better at this – it’s not fair
to my wife and daughter and it’s not fair to me. Brad is very consistent about taking real
time off – he and his wife take one week a quarter where they go away and
completely relax. I need to follow their
example more.

Not really fun, more something to get past. I had a spring spent in south eastern Oklahoma that was kind of like that--definately not a vacation.

Don't forget that to really, fully recharge you may need to leave both the laptop and the daughter at home. A wise friend of mine once distinguished between a "vacation" and a "trip" -- the latter being when you bring the kids and/or when you visit relatives. In a real vacation, the whole point is to reduce your set of responsibilities to eating and remembering your room key...
