Wanted: Information

I don't know what happened to Google alerts, but I'm not getting anything from my alerts these days. I have maybe 60 alerts set up and get maybe a one alert every other day – I know I'm missing just about everything that's really being written out there, but can't figure out why. While they say that ignorance is bliss, I'm feeling less utopic than just uninformed. I was going to switch everything over to Yahoo! alerts but I thought that before I did that I'd poll you to see if anyone had suggestions on alternatives. Any ideas?

It probably doesn't help right away, but the product we're working on might be a good alternative. You can sign up for a beta invite at http://brightkite.com.

I had a similar problem some time ago turns out the emails were getting lost in junk/spam folders I had to 're-allow' them to come through. I can't explain why they were getting caught up all of a sudden but, hey you asked.

Particls. I just got a MacBook and it's the one thing I truly miss on my PC. I'm jonesing for the Mac version! I reviewed the app for Profy and found it was the best thing for me to slog through my numerous RSS feeds as well as go out and search news sites for topics I'm interested in. I have no other affiliation with them other than the fact that I'm addicted to their app. LMK if you need an invite; I believe they are still in private beta.

Speaking of Google, perhaps it's time to admit that the emperor is buck naked? Google is no longer an asset to small business. It's digressed into a black box designed to extract as much money as possible from small business while giving back as little value as possible. This piece explains why Adwords is something to be skeptical about: "Why Google Adwords is Not Helpful to Small Business" http://smartstartup.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/07/a-fable-doing-b.html
